Architecture I illustration I DIY I 2015
The collection of paper cut-out models features brutalist constructions scattered around the districts of Camden, Southwark or Tower Hamlets, from the iconic tower blocks of Balfron Tower, Barbican and Space House, through the housing estates doomed to premature demolition, like Robin Hood Gardens, Aylesbury and Ledbury Estate, to concrete grand designs, such as the National Theatre.
Following the Warsaw inspired 'Blok Wschodni' (2014) we took yet another attempt at documenting modernist architecture at risk of extinction which, depending on its location, takes place in different forms - might it be demolition in England or thermo-modernization in Poland.
The kits are printed on recycled paper and includes an informative note on each building, architects, year of construction and location of each building, as well as demolition plan if applicable. Featuring 7 illustrated paper models to cut out and assemble:
Aylesbury Estate
Balfron Tower
Barbican
Ledbury Estate
National Theatre
Robin Hood Gardens
Space House
Originally released in February 2015, this internationally acclaimed collection was translated into the book Brutal London: Construct Your Own Concrete Capital (Prestel, 2016).
